I’m still here….

Hi everyone!  Keeping up with a regular blog has proven difficult for me the last several weeks.  I am here now, though, so I will try to fit everything I need to say into this blog….

It’s been an up and down time for me lately.  I’ve been working a lot, which is good for the budget, but not so good for me.  I’ve developed a touch of insomnia….I have so much going through my head that I find myself having problems resting.  When I have been sleepy, I have this bum shoulder/arm thing going on that hampers my sleep (more on this later).

Today has been my first day off in 11 days.  I needed it badly.  Tomorrow I start day 1 of 5, which is much better.

Thursday night I was asked if the good things at work make the bad things worth it.  (Or something to that nature)  At that time I said no.  It was just a bad time to be asking me that I guess.  As I sit and think about it, the good things that happen and the happy times DEFINITELY make it worth the bad times.  Unfortunately good things are far and few between.  When the bad times are happening at a regular pace (as they have the last 10 days) I get so drained emotionally that I actually wonder why on earth I ever chose this job.  Give me a day off or two, and let me refresh….then I’m back to loving every minute of it. I don’t think I could be happy doing anything else.

Last night I got a call from a lady who had just moved to Defiance.  She had some concerns about a man that walked around asking people if they had seen any cats.  She was not familiar with this animal loving man.  Our office is all too familiar.  Mr. Willie has built something like a POW compound in his back yard and he houses and feeds every last stray cat in town.  You can find him on a nice afternoon laying on the ground with several cats laying on top of him.  As he walks down the street, he always has a sizable herd of felines at his feet.  When one goes missing, he panics.  He puts ads in the paper that say “Wanted Dead or Alive. Please check your outbuildings and the streets for this or that cat.”  And of course, he leaves a phone number.  He is harmless.  A little odd, but harmless.  He must be getting lonely for human companionship as last week he put an ad in the paper wanting any single female to move in with him and help him take care of his cats…..(NO, I was not tempted in the least!!!)  ANYWAY, this lady and I had a good laugh as I told her the stories about Mr. Willie.  She is no longer afraid of him.  This was a good moment.

I also got a frantic call from a lady who was home alone at night and was awoken by a car hitting a large rock in her front yard.  Whoever the young man was seemed to be a bit tipsy and came to the house pounding on doors and trying to get into her residence.  I stayed on the line with her until the officers arrived to help this young man.  She was absolutely terrified, but once the officers got there, instead of hanging up like people usually do, she took the time to thank me for talking to her and keeping her calm, and let me know that she really appreciated me being there for her.  Finally, a good outcome. This was another great moment.

So I would like to change my answer, Taylhis.  It is SO worth it!!!!  Thank you and your family for yet again inviting me into your home Thursday night.  I always have so much fun meeting new people and just getting away from the every day stresses.  We didn’t even use the dip bowl!!! :)

The first time I came over for game night I brought “homemade” dip (from a jar) and put it in this cute little bowl I bought to make it look fancy. I leave the bowl at the house and the joke is that they have to invite me back so I can get my bowl!! This last time I brought Na-da to put in it…I was a total slacker!!!

Hmmm… dressing up homemade dip in a decorative bowl… sounds like something someone else would do :D

I hadn’t located the dip bowl in time for game night – found it the next day, so yes, I guess now you have to come back :)
I like the story of the stray cat guy. I am also a crazy animal nut. Before I had so many kids, I was going to put together a program to help get strays spayed and neutered. I hear there is one like it in Defiance, so that’s good. I’m glad someone wants to take care of all those cats! I was sad when our town passed an ordinance saying that they could trap and kill feral cats :(
